The Guest Bathroom

Combining Victorian Charm with
Modern Utility

Utility meets art in the Guest Bath at EASTLAKE B & B       The EASTLAKE Bed & Breakfast is a "European Style" B & B, with a shared bath "down the hall." The first door on the left at the top of the guest stairs, the Guest Bath is the perfect place to start our tour. (Please click on any photo for a larger view.)

As with all EASTLAKE rooms, the Guest Bath illustrates the EASTLAKE's concern for comfort, with its pristine modern fixtures, while preserving the Victorian "flavor" of the house with authentic period touches such as the patterned glass transom over the door and the decorative but functional woodworking of the spandrel over the shower and the cabinetry, all of which has been pains-takingly restored or reproduced by the Rohdes. (Click here to see the beautiful hand-finished cabinets.)

The hand-worked Glue Chip glass transom over the door of the Guest Bath.       For those of you interested in the fancy glass-work, the transom was made by your hostess in a copper foil assembly, a process apparently first used by Tiffany. The historically-accurate "glue chip" glass was one of the first forms of textured glass, used in many turn-of-the-century buildings; the center diamond is glue chip bevels. The metal fittings on the outer corners once again show the attention to detail that sets The EASTLAKE apart: the purchased brass stampings were "tinned" with silver/lead solder then brushed with a patina of black and copper to match the original hardware used throughout the house. (Again, you may click on the photo to see the details of this exquisite work.)
